Corte Giara

Valpolicella Classico, Veneto

Background

Corte Giara is the negociant label of Allegrini. The wines are made by Allegrini from fruit bought in from outside their own vineyards. Since 2008, they have been renting an estate called Tenuta di Naiano, which is situated east of Verona close to Lake Garda. This gives them the same control over the vineyards as they have with the Allegrini wines, and ensures that most of their Pinot Grigio and Bardolino now comes from vineyards they control.

As a result, the wines have a similar stamp of quality to the Allegrini wines, something that sets them aside from most of the Veronese wines produced at this level. Franco Allegrini is of course the master of Valpolicella, so it is not surprising that the Cortegiara Ripasso and Amarone are so good.
