Vibrant and you can certainly see the varietal character here.

Bright on the bouquet with sour red cherry, fennel and bramble; vibrant acidity and gravelly tannins drive the palate, with a dollop of toasty oak remaining; a savoury and ultimately refreshing wine.

This Anglo-Italian-Australian venture is really starting to hit its straps now, the emigré Tuscan variety seemingly comfortable in Heathcote in a way it rarely is elsewhere outside its homeland. A kind of turbo-charged Chianti, it is densely structured, but with that lovely lilt of sour cherry and oregano and spicy clove.

Medium garnet in colour, Greenstone Vineyard's 2009 Sangiovese offers a good intensity of warm cherry / kirsch aromas with a spicy undercurrent of cinnamon stick, cloves and vanilla and just a hint of chocolate. Medium bodied with plenty of ripe, mouth-filling fruit, it has a high level of refreshing acidity and medium level of finely grained tannins. The finish is long and spicy.
