A perfect 100 points for Quinta do Seixo 2017
Sandeman's Quinta do Seixo 2017 has scooped 100 points and first place in Wine Enthusiast's Top 100 Cellar Selections 2019.
The magazine's Portugal expert Roger Voss says "This is going to be a major impressive wine. All the elements are there: ripe blackberry fruit, powerful acidity, dense tannins and spice. It has the structure to live on for decades."
It's the first time that a Sandeman Port has been awarded 100 points and Luís Sottomayor, head of Sogrape's winemaking team in the Douro, is justly delighted: "Our greatest motivation when producing a wine is that it provides pleasure to consumers once it lands on their table. That is the reason why we work hard every day. If, besides that, we are able to achieve a score such as this one, then the entire team can also definitely be proud of such an accomplishment."
The 2017 is only the third time that Sandeman’s Quinta do Seixo has been released as a Single Quinta Vintage and is testament to the vineyard improvements spearheaded by Sottomayor: "Thanks to the characteristics of the vineyards at Quinta do Seixo, it was possible to counteract the very ripe nature of [the 2017] harvest. As a result, we produced very balanced and robust wines, with aromatic notes typical of more mature years and a set of characteristics that match the profile expected for this wine."
