Cullen Wines named Australian Winery of the Year

Cullen Wines has been crowned the Australian Winery of the Year after taking the number one spot on The Real Review’s 2020 list of top performing wineries.

Summarising the win, critic Huon Hooke wrote, “Biodynamic viticulture may have something to do with the high quality of wine across the board, but the acute attention to detail and worldly understanding of quality also count. The 2018 Kevin John Chardonnay and 2018 Diana Madeline were the stars for Cullen.”

The annual list also featured Clonakilla at number four, Morris of Rutherglen in eighth place and Henschke in 12th position Also recognised in the top 50 were By Farr (27), Giant Steps (32), Shaw + Smith (42) and Tolpuddle Vineyard (44).

The Real Review also produces an equivalent list of New Zealand’s Top Wineries, which featured several more of our producers. Riesling specialists Framingham were the highest ranking in 11th place, followed by Trinity Hill at number 14 and Ata Rangi at 15. Akarua was 40th on the list and Blank Canvas took 44th position.

Now in their third year, the rankings for both lists are determined by an algorithm which considers the rating and recency of reviews by The Real Review team over an assessment period of two years.
