Trophy success at the International Wine Challenge 2020


The International Wine Challenge (IWC) has named its 2020 Trophy winners and we're delighted to see the Tolpuddle Vineyard Coal River Valley Chardonnay 2018 and Justino's Madeira Terrantez 1978 scooping the top 'Best in Show' accolades of Champion White Wine Trophy and Champion of Champions' Trophy respectively.

The Morris of Rutherglen Old Premium Rare Liqueur Rutherglen Topaque NV won the Australian Fortified Trophy, while their Old Premium Rare Liqueur Rutherglen Muscat NV received the Rutherglen Muscat Trophy. The Nyetimber Classic Cuvée 2010 was awarded the English Sparkling Trophy, while Rare Champagne won the Rosé Champagne Trophy for their Rosé Millésime 2008 and the Vintage Classic Blend Champagne Trophy for their Millésime 2008.

IWC Gold medals were awarded to a further 19 of our wines from Bodega Garzón, Charles Heidsieck, Château de Santenay, Dawson James, Devaux, Fèlsina Berardenga, Jean-Claude Boisset, Nyetimber, Piper-Heidsieck, Sandeman, Shaw + Smith, Valdespino and Wild Earth.

Entries to the IWC are tasted blind by a least eight judges - all working within the wine trade - throughout the process, and awarded based on faithfulness to style, region and vintage.

Very fine mousse with delicate and refined in style. Admirable focus and structure. Hints of brioche and cream notes on the palate. Chalky citrus flavours are balanced by savoury undertones and apple lift with a complex elegant finish.

Beautiful salmon pink rose, floral, elegant and generous brioche with red fruits and cinnamon. Youthful and vibrant core with some minerality and citrus acidity. Lovely, integrated mousse. A classic champagne.

This wine is really refined with subtle toast and spice. Raspberries and cream fraiche and lovely, smooth, citrus fruit with green Mirrabelle plum and orchard fruit. Fine acidity ripples through the palate and the sweetness is perfectly integrated.

Intense and persistent on the nose with sweet oak spices. On the palate vanilla, toast and cream with red and blue fruits. Lovely intensity with a focused finish; pure, silky and long.
