Liberty Wines strengthens its senior management team

After a successful 2020, Liberty Wines has created three new roles to strengthen its senior management team. Sales director Tom Platt is being promoted to the newly created position of deputy managing director, while head of London Sales Tim Fordham fills the new role of director of UK sales. He was appointed from a strong field which included external candidates, as was Tom Jones, who is the new deputy head of National Accounts.

Managing director David Gleave explains the rationale behind these changes. “When we entered lockdown in March 2020, we were convinced we’d have our worst year ever; as it turns out, we’ve had one of our best years since we started in 1997.  This is because of the way the team worked so well together.  We’re aiming to build upon this work to create a stronger platform for future growth.”

Tim Fordham and Tom Jones started their new roles in February, while Tom Platt will become deputy managing director on 1 April.

Gleave says of Tom Platt: “Tom has been at Liberty Wines for over 12 years.  He started as an assistant in National Accounts and has progressed through the company, taking each new challenge in his stride.  The vitality he has brought to his current role, and the support he has provided to me over the past year, have been nothing short of remarkable.  I know he’ll bring the same dynamism to this newly created role, which in turn will ensure we are an even stronger company than we were 12 months ago.  He will take responsibility for certain aspects of my role which allows me to focus on customer service and portfolio development, two areas that underpin what Liberty Wines is all about.”

Tom Platt says of Tim Fordham: “Tim has done a superb job of leading the team that services the complex and highly competitive London market since 2016, so I’m quite certain he will do an equally good job of running the UK team.  His wine empathy ensures he is at ease with our portfolio, while the job he has done in London means he has the support of the entire sales team.”

On Tom Jones he adds: “Tom has been key part of our highly successful National Accounts team, which is headed up by Max Hoang.  Their growth in recent years makes it a bigger team, so we decided with Max to invest in the team now to support future growth.”
