Liberty Wines to distribute Jancis Robinson x Richard Brendon Glassware

We are very pleased to announce that Liberty Wines will distribute the Jancis Robinson Collection of glassware, made by British Designer Richard Brendon, to our restaurant and wine retail customers. We have been on the lookout for a glassware partner for a number of years.  When Jancis Robinson’s collaboration with Richard Brendon came to fruition in 2018, we bought the glasses and were impressed with their style and simplicity.  The concept of one glass for every wine appealed in theory and worked in practice.  When Richard Brendon asked us if we’d be interested in distributing the glass and decanters earlier this year, we quickly said yes.

The range is simple, by design. One wine glass, one water glass and two decanters – one designed for older, mature wines, and one designed for younger wines.

Jancis explains the rationale behind the wine glass:  “I love white wine as much as red and have never understood why white wine glasses are routinely smaller than those designed for red wine. White wines can be just as complex, and just as deserving of what you might call aroma enhancement as reds. It just seems so obvious and sensible to have one single wine glass for all three colours of wine – especially when so many of us are short of storage space.”

The design which Richard and Jancis agreed on is produced by master craftspeople in Slovenia. The gossamer thin glasses are made from lead-free mouth-blown finest crystal. Jancis noted “I wanted a harmonious curvature that would maximise the wine’s surface area when the glass was filled with a typical 125ml pour, yet leave room above in which the all-important aroma would collect.” Also key for Jancis was the need for the glasses to be practical and appropriate for everyday use. They are dishwasher safe, designed to fit into domestic and commercial machines; the stem was specifically designed with robust handling and constant use in mind.

The water glass perfectly mirrors the shape and dimensions of the bowl of the wine glass. The generous Young Wine Decanter has plenty of space for a young wine to be swirled and aerated, allowing flavours of a young wine to develop and mellow in the decanter. It has enough volume to hold a magnum. The Old Wine Decanter holds a 75cl bottle, and allows for decanting off the sediment while minimising the potential oxidation of the wine.

We feel the glasses and decanters enhance the experience of drinking any wine, and are proud to be their exclusive UK trade partner.
