Château Montgrand-Milon

Bordeaux, bordeaux France

Château Montgrand-Milon is made at Château Fonbadet, which is situated in the north of the small village of Saint-Lambert in Pauillac, close to the banks of the Gironde river. The estate was part of Château Latour from the Middle Ages until the beginning of the 20th century when it was purchased by the current owners, the Peyronie family.

The vineyards are located near to some of the most reputed estates in Bordeaux, including Château Mouton-Rothschild and, of course, Château Latour. The vines are over 50 years old, planted on gravel and sandy soils at a density of 10,000 vines per hectare. The vines are double-cordon trellised and planted on gentle slopes, with all harvesting done by hand.

The 2016 Château Montgrand-Milon is a blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Merlot. Vinification took place in temperature-controlled, stainless-steel tanks. The wine was aged for 12 to 15 months in French oak, 15% of which was new. The nose boasts bright aromas of blackberries and cassis, with hints of cinnamon and clove from the oak. The palate is well balanced, with silky tannins, fresh acidity, concentrated fruit and a lifted finish. It is rare to find a Pauillac like this that is both affordable and approachable.
