Domaine Corsin

Burgundy, burgundy France

Domaine Corsin has established an excellent reputation for making wines in Saint-Véran and Pouilly-Fuissé since 1864. They were among the first to label the wines as Pouilly-Fuissé and Mâcon Blanc.

Joseph Jacquet, the founder of the domaine, had only two hectares of Chardonnay when he started making wine. In 1971, with the advent of the Saint-Véran appellation, Joseph's grandson André acquired new vineyards in Davayé and Pouilly-Fuissé. His two sons, Jean-Jacques and Gilles, subsequently joined him in the family business. The domaine is now in its fifth generation and owns 13.6 hectares of Chardonnay in the Mâconnais.

The Mâcon-Villages is made from fruit grown on north-east facing slopes at an altitude of 200 - 280 metres above sea level in the villages of Davayé and Solutré. This unoaked Mâcon is bright gold with refreshing citrus fruit on the palate and a long finish. The Saint-Véran ‘Tirage Précoce’, which means ‘early racking’, is unique to Domaine Corsin. It is an unoaked Chardonnay matured on its fine lees until it is ready for bottling. It has light, refreshing acidity, lemon aromatics and steely minerality. The Saint-Véran ‘Vieilles Vignes’ is made using fruit from vines which are on average 40 years old. It is fermented in stainless steel, with 35% of the wine then aged in oak barrels on fine lees for eight months, with occasional bâtonnage. It offers flavours of citrus and yellow peach complemented by a bright acidity that lifts the aromas on the finish. The Pouilly-Fuissé ‘Vieilles Vignes’ comes from vines which are 55 years old and located in Fuissé and Solutré, in the heart of the Pouilly-Fuissé appellation. Forty percent of the wine is aged in oak barrels (20% new) on its fine lees with occasional bâtonnage. After the wine has matured for 10 months, it is blended and bottled at the end of the summer following the harvest.

New to our list this year is the Pouilly-Fuissé ‘Aux Chailloux’, a single-parcel site which is destined for Premier Cru status in the coming years. From the ripe 2015 vintage, this wine, fermented 50% in oak and 50% in stainless steel, has flavours of ripe yellow fruits, sweet pastries and hints of marzipan which linger on the finish.
