Domaine du Tunnel

Northern Rhône, northern rhone France

Domaine du Tunnel is situated in an old steam train tunnel in the charming village of Saint-Péray in the Northern Rhône. This small family domaine is run by Stéphane Robert and his wife Sandrine. Stéphane, also the winemaker, began in 1994 when he was just twenty-four years old by renting vines. He now owns ten hectares of his own vines located in Cornas, Saint-Péray and Saint-Joseph.

Stéphane's Cornas is made from 15 parcels of Syrah from several lieu-dits. The blending of parcels gives the wine layers of complexity and character. The wine spends 14 months in four-year-old oak barriques for roundness without masking the fruit. It has a lovely deep colour with a ripe and spicy nose of fragrant black fruits. The tannins are smooth but structured. The Saint-Péray is made 100% from Roussanne and is fermented in a combination of stainless steel and four year old barriques. It is then aged on its lees for a further nine months. The wine has delicate aromas of white flowers and grapefruit with lively acidity. Stéphane's wines have wonderful concentration of fruit, finesse and purity that is profound and mouthfilling.
