Duffour Père et Fils

South West France, south west france France

One of the best and most consistent estates in central Gascony, this domaine has been owned by the Duffour family since 1955. Michel Duffour, a passionate winemaker, took over in 1973 and spent three decades at the winemaking helm. Michel passed on his knowledge and enthusiasm to his son Nicolas, who has worked at the estate since 2004 and is the current winemaker.

The 70 hectare vineyard is spread across sunny south-facing slopes, ensuring consistent ripening of the fruit as well as excellent drainage. The soils are clay and limestone and the vines are on average 30 years old. Unusually for this fertile region, lower yields are encouraged by pruning more severely, which in turn brings a greater concentration to the wine. The approach at Duffour Père et Fils is very much based on quality, rather than quantity.

Their excellent value white, a blend of Colombard, Gros Manseng, Ugni Blanc and Sauvignon Blanc, is clean and modern in style without any oak influence. It displays more weight and aromatics than many other wines from this area.
