JCB by Jean-Charles Boisset

Burgundy, burgundy France

Jean-Charles Boisset was born into a winemaking family in Burgundy. Today, Jean-Charles, his sister Nathalie, and his parents Jean-Claude and Claudine Boisset are proprietors of a collection of more than 20 great wine estates from the world’s pre-eminent wine producing regions. In our portfolio, this includes De Loach Vineyards (Russian River Valley), Jean-Claude Boisset (Burgundy) and Louis Bouillot, Burgundy’s leading producer of sparkling wine. Created by Jean-Charles, the innovative JCB Collection brings together two worlds of winemaking: Old and New. Each wine in the collection is a limited edition and is ‘named’ with a number. These numbers relate to a wine style that Jean-Charles strives to achieve vintage to vintage, while also symbolising important ideas, passions and moments in his life and wine career.

Jean-Charles’ wine philosophy has been profoundly shaped by the wine region where he was born and raised. ‘No. 21’, a blend of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Gamay and Aligoté acknowledges this connection and heritage because 21 is the French government’s ‘département’ number for the Côte d’Or. This wine is made according to the traditional method, with second fermentation in bottle. All four grape varieties are vinified separately in temperature-controlled, stainless-steel tanks. Blending takes place in April following the harvest, with 20% reserve wine added to the final blend. The wine is bottled in May for the second fermentation, after which it is aged on lees for a minimum of 12 months to add depth and complexity.
