Les Terres du Roy

Southern Rhône, southern rhone France

‘Roy’ is the old spelling for ‘roi’ in French and the name ‘Terres du Roy’ means ‘lands of the king’. The vineyards are situated seven kilometres north of Avignon on land which was once two lakes: Rochefort and Pujaut. The lakes were artificially drained in 1612 to provide feuding parties with more land for agricultural use. Today, evidence of the lakes manifests itself in the stony soils of the vineyards which are covered with pebbles and located on hills overlooking the Pujaut plain. The vines are on average 40 years old and the vineyards are managed sustainably.

The Côtes-du-Rhône is fermented in temperature-controlled, stainless-steel tanks and is a blend of Grenache, Syrah, Carignan and Mourvèdre with no oak influence. It is a ripe and fruit forward wine, which boasts flavours of black and red berry fruit, with supple tannins and crisp acidity.
