Luigi Spertino

Piemonte, piemonte Italy

When we started looking for an Italian vermouth, we asked some of our wine producers for suggestions on where to find an artisanal and high-quality producer. Aldo Vaira suggested we looked at Luigi Spertino, a nine hectare estate from the Monferrato that produces 3,000 bottles of vermouth a year in addition to Grignolino and Barbera. Having managed sourcing of ingredients and production for one of the main distillers in Milan for over 20 years, Mauro Spertino knows where to find the best bases for his infusions. He does not compromise on the quality and diversity of the herbs and plants that he uses in the secret recipe of the Belle Époque Vermouth. The base white wine is an estate-grown Cortese selected for neutrality in order to avoid interference with the aromatics coming from the infusions. The result is an extremely refined and elegant vermouth with multiple layers of exotic aromatics. It is extremely versatile and can be used as an aperitif, as a dessert wine, or as an ingredient in cocktails.
