Marqués de Burgos

Castilla y León, castilla y leon Spain

Bodegas LAN’s motivation to expand into other regions in Spain led to the Marqués de Burgos project in Ribera del Duero. After a thorough search within the appellation, the village of Quintana del Pidio was selected as the source of the grapes, as it enjoys a high proportion of very old vines. These old vines produce particularly low yields (around three tonnes per hectare), giving rise to wines with exceptional concentration, intense colour and smooth tannins.

Both the Crianza and Roble are made from 100% Tempranillo. The Roble grapes come from 30-year-old vineyards in the Quintana del Pidio (Burgos) area, where most of the region’s old vines are located. It has intense red cherry and forest fruits on the nose that give way to a smooth finish on the palate, which is derived from eight months of barrel ageing. Fruit for the Crianza comes from south facing slopes in the Quintana del Pidio, La Horra and Roa municipalities, situated at an altitude of 850 metres and with low yielding vines that are on average 40 years old. With twelve months of barrel age, the wine is very expressive, displaying both red and black bramble fruits and a savoury, slightly balsamic finish with chocolate tones.
