Tuscany, tuscany Italy

The Poggiotondo estate is situated in the hills to the north-west of Empoli in western Tuscany. These hills are south and south-west facing, and are planted primarily with Sangiovese. Alberto Antonini's estate has been certified organic since the 2014 vintage. As a result, he has released an organic Chianti as his entry level wine. It is vibrant and delicious.

His dry and unoaked white, from vineyards on the Tuscan coast that Alberto manages, is an unusual blend of organic Ansonica and Vermentino. The rest of the fruit comes from his estate, and is used to produce an increasingly impressive array of wines. His Chianti Superiore is a step up, showing deep, dark fruit and earthiness. His flagship wine is 'Vigna Conchiglie', made solely from Sangiovese grown in the eponymous vineyard. It is silky and minerally with lovely length, depth and definition. Their new Chianti Classico 'Terre di Cresci' is sourced from a seven hectare vineyard in the area known as 'Cresci', in Chianti Classico. The average age of the vines is 35 years, giving a very vibrant and succulent wine.
