Vigne Marina Coppi

Piemonte, piemonte Italy

Marina Coppi is the daughter of the legendary cyclist Fausto Coppi, the first man ever to win the Giro d‘Italia and the Tour de France in the same year. Although vines have always been planted at Castellania, a small village in south-eastern Piemonte, it was only when Marina’s son Francesco, along with his wife Anna, took over the property that they began bottling their own wine. They focus on the native varieties of Barbera, Nebbiolo, Croatina, Freisa, Favorita and Timorasso to make wines that are vibrant and well defined.

Their Timorasso, named ‘Fausto’ after the great man himself, is their flagship wine and one of the very best examples of the variety produced. It is resolutely modern in style, having been fermented solely in stainless steel, yet is concentrated, long and mineral. Their Timorasso ‘Grand Fostó’ is a homage to this varietal: produced only in very small quantities, this wine is aged for 12 months on the lees before release. The Barbera ‘sant’ Andrea’ is vibrant and pristine, a paradigm of good Barbera. The delicious ‘Marine’ Favorita, which is aged in tank on its lees for six months to augment texture and complexity, shows clear varietal definition allied to Coppi finesse.
