Les Caves de la Loire is a cooperative winery in Brissac-Quincé, a commune just south of Angers. It was established in 1951 and comprises 160 growers and 1,600 hectares of vineyards, most of which are located in Anjou.

Les Caves de la Loire is certified ‘AgriConfiance’ and ‘Démarche Vignerons En Développement Durable’. ‘AgriConfiance’ ensures that all growers adhere to sustainable practices, providing complete traceability from grape to bottle. ‘Vignerons En Développement Durable’ is specific to the wine industry and denotes sustainability in the entire wine production process: viticulture, winemaking and employment.

The ‘Wally’ Sauvignon Blanc is zesty, with lively acidity, hints of passion fruit and gooseberry, excellent balance and a clean finish. Its counterpart, ‘Wally’ Chenin Blanc shares the same great purity of fruit, accompanied by hints of white flowers. It also has excellent acidity, ensuring the final wine is rich yet refreshing.

Vineyards

The grapes were sourced from the Anjou area in the Loire Valley, just south of the city of Angers. The vineyards are planted on Sologne clay and sand which lend the finished wines elegance and power.

Vintage

Generally, the 2022 vintage was characterised by favourable conditions. Winter was relatively dry in the region, despite some spring frosts in early April, humidity remained low. Budburst occurred in mid-April, and May was also warmer and dryer compared to the previous 10-year average. In June, there were some heavy rainfalls that were offset by high temperatures in July, ensuring a mildew free veraison. Conditions continued to be optimal until harvest.

Vinification

The grapes were pressed using a pneumatic press. After 10 hours, the must was racked and left on its fine lees at 8°C. Fermentation took place in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks at 16°C before remaining in tanks until bottling.

Tasting Notes & Technical Details

Pale gold in colour, this Chenin Blanc offers aromas of fresh apricot and lime that mingle with hints of honey and acacia flowers. The bright palate has a lovely texture and flavours of roasted nuts on the moreish finish.
