Laurent-Perrier Champagne was founded by Eugène Laurent in Tours-sur-Marne in 1812 and remains family-run today. While known first and foremost for the Cuvée Rosé, Laurent-Perrier is now one of the most highly regarded Champagne houses due to the quality of its entire range. Their champagnes are all vinified by winemaker Michel Fauconnet, using grapes sourced from sustainably farmed vineyards in 55 villages.

The ‘La Cuvée’ Brut NV is a blend of 55% Chardonnay, 35% Pinot Noir and 10% Meunier, which ages for four years on its lees with less dosage than usual at nine grammes per litre residual sugar. Created in 1968, the Cuvée Rosé blends 100% Pinot Noir from 10 villages. The rosé colour is achieved by a short maceration of the Pinot Noir for 48 to 72 hours. The rosé is then cellared for at least five years before its release.

The Brut ‘Millésimé’ is made only in the best years, blending Chardonnay exclusively from the Côte des Blancs with Pinot Noir from the Montagne de Reims. The ‘Grand Siècle’ Brut is a Chardonnay/Pinot Noir blend from three exceptional vintages, aged for a minimum of eight years.

Vineyards

Laurent-Perrier owns 150 hectares of land, which produces 10% of what is needed to make the 'La Cuvée.' The other 90% is bought in from over 100 Grand Crus villages. The Laurent-Perrier vines are planted on chalky soils which are typical of the Champagne region. The chalk subsoil holds sufficient water and provides good drainage when it is wet to prevent roots becoming water logged.

Vintage

This wine is a blend of three distinct vintages, each contributing its own character. The 2012 vintage, marked by spring frosts and a dry, sunny summer, produced wines of great finesse, with elegant, balanced Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs showing red fruit aromas. The 2008 vintage, considered outstanding, yielded complex and well-structured wines, where Chardonnays and Pinots Noirs displayed remarkable aromatic richness. Meanwhile, the 2007 vintage, following a warm spring and variable summer, brought fresh, straightforward wines, with Chardonnays offering citrus and white fruit notes and Pinot Noirs expressing yellow fruit aromas. Together, these vintages create a harmonious and expressive blend of depth, balance, and freshness.

Vinification

There is a further sorting in the winery, where the top 'Cuvée' or free-run juice is identified and sent to separately-housed fermentation vats. After the first fermenation, the base wines are blended and then bottled before being aged in the cellar for over five years to gain the yeasty, autolytic character of bread, almonds and honey.

Tasting Notes & Technical Details

This wine shows a white gold hue with fine, persistent bubbles. The nose is complex and refined, revealing layers of honeysuckle, lemon, clementine, and fresh butter, complemented by subtle hints of hazelnut and honey. The palate is delicate and fresh, with flavours of candied lemon and fresh hazelnut leading to a silky, mineral texture. Notes of honeysuckle, flaked almonds, and clementine linger gracefully on the finish. Best enjoyed chilled between 10°C and 12°C
