Producer
In 2009, Dutch entrepreneur Eric Kurver founded Maison Saint Aix estate to realise his lifelong ambition to craft the world’s finest rosé. Over a decade later, he and his family have transformed it into one of Provence’s leading producers, championing sustainability and site-specific winemaking. In 2022, Nicolas Quiles joined as winemaker, bringing over 20 years of global winemaking expertise to further refine the house style and uphold the uncompromising quality of AIX’s wines.
Maison Saint Aix is located 30 kilometres north of Aix-en-Provence at 500 metres above sea level, the highest point of the appellation, behind the Montagne Sainte-Victoire. This high elevation, coupled with cooling Mistral winds and striking diurnal temperature variation, ensures wines of freshness and balance. The estate owns a single plot of 75 hectares, planted on limestone-rich soils which are naturally well-draining, yet retain moisture, producing wines with mineral finesse and purity of fruit. The vineyard is managed with a biodynamic approach, utilising bio-preparations to enhance soil fertility, sowing rye to prevent erosion and enforcing biodiversity-driven pest management to ensure vineyard health. Nicolas also works closely with local growers, sourcing grapes through longstanding contracts.
Crafted from a blend of Grenache, Syrah, and Cinsault, the Maison Saint Aix Rosé is a quintessential expression of Provence, embodying elegance, freshness, and a refined fruit character. Their most recent release, ‘AIX White’, is a limited production blend of Rolle and Sauvignon Blanc from the cooler reaches of the Côteaux d’Aix-en-Provence. Crisp and expressive, it captures the character of the estate’s limestone soils and reflects their commitment to reviving Provence’s white winemaking traditions.
Vineyards
The grapes hail from one of the highest sites in the Côteaux d’Aix-en-Provence. 420 metres above sea level, this 75-hectare vineyard, planted on clay and limestone soils near the Sainte-Victoire mountain, is farmed with a biodynamic approach. Abundant sunshine and cool nighttime temperatures preserve natural acidity and aromatic complexity. The Mistral wind mitigates disease pressure during the growing season.
Vintage
The 2025 harvest at Maison Saint Aix was among the earliest on record, starting on August 25th. Rain in the spring, with no frost, ensured good water reserves throughout a hot August. This heat brought ripening, and therefore harvest, forward at a rapid pace. The grapes had excellent acidity to balance the ripeness, resulting in refined, fruit-forward wines.
Vinification
The carefully selected grapes underwent gentle pressing, followed by a slow, low-temperature fermentation to capture and preserve the wine’s delicate aromas. Ageing took place in stainless steel tanks to maintain purity and highlight the elegance of the fruit.
Tasting Notes & Technical Details
The wine has an aromatic bouquet with notes of fresh red berries and delicate hints of white flowers. On the palate, it is vibrant and balanced, with subtle notes of grapefruit and juicy melon, complemented by a fine mineral edge that adds depth and precision. The finish is long and refreshing.
