Château Miraval is located in the wild and picturesque Provençal village of Correns, France's first 100% organic commune. Tucked away in its own private valley, the Château is surrounded by organic ancient woodlands and olive groves. In 2012, owner Brad Pitt partnered with the Perrin family of Château de Beaucastel fame to oversee wine production at the estate. Their continued dedication to improving quality, in both the vineyards and the cellar, has seen the wines go from strength to strength, with Château Miraval today considered one of the great winemaking names of Provence.
Château Miraval comprises 50 hectares of terraced vineyards, planted 350 metres above sea level, resulting in cool nights that moderate warm days and allow grapes to retain their delicate aromas and crisp acidity. The clay and chalk soils at Miraval are also crucial for quality, helping regulate water supply to the vines so they have water when they need it and drainage when they don’t. During harvest, the grapes are hand-picked in the cool temperatures of early morning, before being hand-sorted twice to ensure only the best grapes go into the final wine, which blends Grenache, Cinsault, Rolle (aka Vermentino) and Syrah.
All the grapes for the Miraval Côtes de Provence Rosé are gently pressed to extract just the right amount of colour, except for the Syrah, which is vinified using the saignée method. Each variety is fermented separately in temperature-controlled, stainless-steel tanks, before being blended post-fermentation. Additionally, the Rolle is put into 228-litre barrels and bâtonnage is practised to add texture and complexity. The wine is a beautiful pale pink with enticing aromas of raspberries, cherries and hints of garrigue. The palate is dry with crisp acidity and a lingering, perfumed finish. The Miraval Côtes de Provence Blanc is made solely from Rolle, which gives the wine an attractive almond and fresh white peach character. 10% of the blend is fermented in oak for 12 months which lends additional texture and roundness to the wine.
Miraval Sainte Victoire Rosé is sourced exclusively from Côtes de Provence Sainte-Victoire, a rocky outcrop covering the hillsides of the Upper Arc Valley. The area’s shallow, clay limestone soils and exposure to the Mistral wind produce an elegant and pure rosé, with perfumed fruit, racy acidity and supple texture.
The ‘Studio’ Rosé is a delicious blend of Cinsault, Grenache, Rolle and Tibouren which pays tribute to the many artists, including Pink Floyd and AC/DC, who have made tracks at the recording studio on the estate. The studio was recently redesigned and opened again in summer 2022, welcoming a new generation of artists to record music on the estate.
The Muse de Miraval is a blend of Grenache and Rolle, hailing from a strict selection of two of the oldest parcels at Château Miraval, where the vines are 60 years old. The wine is fermented in tulip-shaped concrete vats and lees-aged until the spring following harvest. It is bottled exclusively in individually, hand-decorated magnums. Refined, beautifully balanced and complex, this is a serious Rosé from one of the most recognised names in Provence.
