Finca Flichman, in southern Maipú, Mendoza, is one of Argentina’s oldest and most prestigious wineries. It was founded in 1910 by Don Sami Flichman, who emigrated to Argentina from Łódz, Poland and established the estate's first vineyards on the rocky, well-drained plots within the town of Barrancas. In 1947, Don’s son Isaac and winemaker Raúl de la Mota created ‘Caballero de la Cepa’, one of the first premium Argentinian wines to have international success. Today, winemaking is overseen by Rogelio Rabino, supported by acclaimed consultant and winemaker Alberto Antonini, as well as renowned soil and vineyard mapping expert Pedro Parra.

Sogrape, owned by the Guedes family, purchased Finca Flichman in 1998, investing heavily in restoring the vineyards and modernising the winery. In addition to the original Barrancas vineyard, they also expanded to the higher elevations of Tupungato in the Uco Valley in Mendoza. At the foot of the Andes, these vineyards benefit from large diurnal temperature variations, resulting in longer ripening seasons and more elegant styles.

Tanguero

The ‘Tanguero’ range is intended for drinking young and fresh. The wines are full of varietal character and express the exuberance of the Argentinian tango dancers depicted on the label. They offer great value for money.

Vineyards

Grapes for the Tanguero Malbec were picked from the Barrancas region in southern Maipú, Mendoza. The vineyards are over 50 years old and sit at high altitudes of up to 760 metres above sea level, meaning there are large temperature differences between day and night. This extends the growing seasons and helps to retain freshness and finesse in the wines. The soils here are a mix of sand and clay.

Vintage

The 2025 vintage was warm in Mendoza with higher temperatures causing almost all varietals to ripen earlier than usual. Harvest was also shorter as the different varieties unusually ripened at similar times. Overall, the fruit was in excellent health with very good balance between sugar and acidity.

Vinification

All grapes were machine harvested, then cold settled for 24 hours at 10ºC. Fermentation took place in stainless-steel tanks for 10 days at 24ºC, with regular pump-overs performed. Malolactic conversion took place in tank. A portion of the wine (20%) was matured for three months in third-use 225-litre French oak barrels, with the rest (80%) remaining in stainless-steel tanks, followed by two months of ageing in bottle prior to release.

Tasting Notes & Technical Details

This Malbec has an intense ruby colour and lifted ripe red fruit aromas of plums and cherries. The palate is redolent of plum and raspberry aromas complemented by rounded silky tannins and a soft persistent finish.
