Finca Flichman, in southern Maipú, Mendoza, is one of Argentina’s oldest and most prestigious wineries. It was founded in 1910 by Don Sami Flichman, who emigrated to Argentina from Łódz, Poland and established the estate's first vineyards on the rocky, well-drained plots within the town of Barrancas. In 1947, Don’s son Isaac and winemaker Raúl de la Mota created ‘Caballero de la Cepa’, one of the first premium Argentinian wines to have international success. Today, winemaking is overseen by Rogelio Rabino, supported by acclaimed consultant and winemaker Alberto Antonini, as well as renowned soil and vineyard mapping expert Pedro Parra.
Sogrape, owned by the Guedes family, purchased Finca Flichman in 1998, investing heavily in restoring the vineyards and modernising the winery. In addition to the original Barrancas vineyard, they also expanded to the higher elevations of Tupungato in the Uco Valley in Mendoza. At the foot of the Andes, these vineyards benefit from large diurnal temperature variations, resulting in longer ripening seasons and more elegant styles.
Dedicado
For decades, Finca Flichman’s best wine was guarded in the family cellar, and bottles were given only as gifts. Each had a handwritten label that read ‘dedicado a amigos’ (‘dedicated to friends’), which became the inspiration behind Finca Flichman’s flagship series ‘Dedicado’, made from the best, hand-harvested estate vineyards in the Uco Valley. The `Dedicado Malbec` and `Gran Corte` (a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Syrah) are both aged for 12 months in French oak barrels with an additional year spent in bottle
Vineyards
Finca Flichman's 228-hectare estate is located in Tupungato, Uco Valley, at 3,600 feet above sea level, where abundant natural resources and access to fresh water create ideal conditions for grape cultivation. As a pioneer in extreme viticulture, the estate employs advanced technological equipment to manage its high-altitude vineyards, which benefit from mineral-rich alluvial soils. These conditions enable the production of high-quality grapes that express the unique characteristics of this exceptional region.
Vintage
The 2021 vintage was characterised by mild, humid conditions that resulted in slower ripening compared to previous years, generally yielding lower alcohol levels. These conditions produced wines of notable freshness and equilibrium, reflecting the vintage's cooler growing season.
Vinification
Grapes were hand-picked and underwent fermentation over 15 to 20 days at a maximum temperature of 26°-28°C. Complete malolactic fermentation was carried out. The wine aged for 18 months in first and second-use oak casks ranging from 500 to 2,000 litres, followed by eight months of bottle ageing to ensure optimal integration and development before release.
Tasting Notes & Technical Details
The wine displays an intense ruby red colour with violet hints. The nose offers spiced plum, black cherry, clove, and lavender, complemented by dried herb notes. The palate is complex and full-bodied with silky tannins, delivering a persistent, fruit-forward finish that showcases the wine's depth and elegance.
