The La Cavea wines are made for Liberty Wines at the Cantina Colli Vicentini near Verona. The name ‘La Cavea’ refers to the beautiful Roman architecture of Vicenza in north-eastern Italy. Wine has been made in the hills around Vicenza for centuries, and grapes like Merlot, Pinot Nero and Pinot Bianco were brought here by Napoleon at the beginning of the 19th century.

The white, a blend of Pinot Bianco and Garganega is fresh and unoaked with lovely weight and nicely rounded fruit on the palate. The red is a rare blend of Merlot and Pinot Nero, with the former giving the wine colour and flesh and the latter lending a lovely fresh and lifted perfume. The Prosecco Spumante has an elegant bouquet and aromas of apples and pears, fresh and fruity on the palate with a crisp, dry finish.

Vineyards

The vineyards are south-west facing and planted on alluvial soils. These hillside sites experience cool nights, allowing the aromatic compounds of the grapes to develop gradually over the growing season. The vines are trained using the Guyot system.

Vintage

The 2024 vintage in Verona enjoyed consistently good weather, with warm, stable conditions supporting steady, balanced ripening throughout the season. Harvest began at the end of August and ran through to mid-September, proceeding smoothly under clear skies and allowing fruit to be picked at optimal maturity. The grapes came into the winery in excellent condition, showing freshness, purity and varietal clarity—qualities that define the character and precision of the 2024 wines.

Vinification

Careful selection of the best fruit was carried out in the vineyard prior to harvest. Once picked, grapes were destemmed and cold soaked for 12 hours before being very gently pressed. The juice was fermented in stainless-steel tanks and remained on its lees for four months prior to bottling. No oak was used.
